Power was turned on in November of 1915

Eugenia Power House and Steel Pipe

Over 100 years ago in 1915, under adverse conditions, the Eugenia Power Station was completed. The project included 1 concrete dam, 6 mud dams, canals, wooden stave pipe, flume line, surge tank, power house and raising the 8th concession. The power was turned on in November of 1915. All this work required a lot of manual labour to achieve. It's amazing when you consider that the construction took place during the First World War.

A book was compiled by Barbara Pearn in 2015, to commemorate the extraordinary achievement of bringing power to this area. The book is over 120 pages with text and many photographs of the construction. It includes information about William Hogg's power station and his attempt to sell power to the city of Toronto. What followed were failed attempts to generate power at Eugenia Falls. The Hydro Electric Commission of Ontario purchased the property and started construction in the spring of 1914.

The book is available for purchase at the Eugenia Gold Rush website.

Here's a short video with a few images from the book.
